My name is Thiery Muhoza, and my journey is a testament to the power of mentorship and opportunity. I began my life in Bujumbura as a security guard at Interbank Burundi, having dropped out of school in Year 6. I had moved to the city in search of a better future and to support my younger siblings back home. Life in the city was tough, and I had come to believe that being a security guard or not amounting to much was simply my fate.
Everything changed the day I met the CEO of Global Youth Emerge (GYE). We spoke for nearly an hour during our first meeting. In me a young man from the village she saw potential I had never seen in myself. Her mentorship was life changing. We met three times that same week, and each conversation opened my eyes to new possibilities. I was initially hesitant about going back to school, and she understood that. Instead, she offered me capital to pursue driving lessons, a skill I was passionate about. With her support, I successfully trained and obtained my driving license.
Today, I am proud to say that I own and operate my own taxi, and I am now able to send money back home to support my family. What once seemed impossible became achievable through the belief and support of someone who cared. I am deeply grateful to Global Youth Emerge for helping me transform my life.
